Harris County Commissioner Rodney Ellis’ Statement on Houston Stadium Workers’ Fight for Respect on the Job

HARRIS COUNTY —  Harris County Commissioner Rodney Ellis released the following statement in response to Houston stadium workers calling for fair pay and working conditions ahead of the 2026 World Cup:

“At a time when families are already struggling through an affordability crisis worsened by state and federal cuts, we must stand with working people. Stadium concessions workers deserve fair pay, dignity, and the ability to support themselves and their families without working three or four jobs just to stay afloat. As Harris County prepares to welcome the world for the 2026 World Cup, we cannot lose sight of the workers who make these events possible. I’m proud to stand with the people who help make our county shine.”

UNITE HERE Local 23 will rally with members and workers outside Shell Stadium from 4:30 – 5:30 p.m. on Sunday, May 24.
