Sheila Jackson Lee was not only a tireless advocate for Houston but also a national voice for justice, equality, and human rights. Naming this building ensures her legacy will inspire generations to come.Commissioner Rodney Ellis
Commissioner Rodney Ellis, along with three fellow County colleagues; Commissioners Lesley Briones, Adrian Garcia, and County Judge Lina Hidalgo joined by the family of the late Congresswoman Sheila Jackson Lee, gathered in downtown Houston to celebrate the official naming of a county building in her honor.
The 17-story office building at 1111 Fannin Street now bears the name of Congresswoman Jackson Lee, commemorating her decades-long legacy of public service, advocacy, and unwavering dedication to the people of Harris County and the nation.
Commissioner Ellis, who requested the building be named after Congresswomen Jackson Lee, emphasized her enduring impact during the ceremony.
The Commissioners Court unanimously approved the renaming last year as a tribute to Jackson Lee’s life and work. Since 2019, the building has undergone major energy-efficient upgrades to improve office functionality, making it a vital hub for essential county operations and public services.
Family members of the late congresswoman, along with local leaders and community advocates, reflected on her lifetime of achievements and the values she championed.
The dedication was livestreamed and is available to view on the Office of Commissioner Ellis' YouTube channel:
