Today’s ruling confirms what Texans saw from the start: the Legislature drew illegal, discriminatory maps to dilute Black and Latino political power and undermine the Voting Rights Act. When even a Trump-appointed judge cites Chief Justice Roberts to call it out, the truth is unmistakable. This map was designed to help Donald Trump consolidate power and avoid any checks on his lawlessness. It’s a partisan power grab engineered to tilt the election by silencing the very communities whose rights the Voting Rights Act was created to protect. While I am glad this court made the right decision, we must remain vigilant in the fight for fair representation. The right to vote in a free and fair election is enshrined in the Constitution, and I urge the Supreme Court to follow the law when this case comes before them.
