Commissioner Ellis’ Office Co-hosts Community Town Hall Set for January 7 on Proposed Ben Taub Expansion

Community members are invited to attend a town hall on Wednesday, January 7, 2026, at 5:30 p.m. at the Cherie Flores Garden Pavilion (1500 Hermann Drive) to learn more about the proposed expansion of Ben Taub Hospital and its potential impact on Hermann Park.

The Office of Commissioner Rodney Ellis and the Hermann Park Conservancy are co-hosting this town hall to share information about the proposal and discuss its potential impact on Hermann Park. The meeting will feature remarks from Cara Lambright, President & CEO of Hermann Park Conservancy, and Dr. Esmail Porsa, President & CEO of Harris Health, followed by a Q&A from the audience.

Healthcare is a human right, and access to green space is essential to community well-being. As conversations continue around the proposed expansion, residents deserve the opportunity to receive clear information and share their perspectives.

Since October 30, when Harris County Commissioners Court voted unanimously to delay any decision on the proposed expansion to allow for deeper public input, Harris Health has held multiple public meetings to hear from the community, including one co-hosted with the Office of Commissioner Rodney Ellis at the El Camino campus. The January 7 town hall with the Hermann Park Conservancy continues the process of public input.

Additional public input opportunities will continue ahead of a public session of Harris County Commissioners Court regarding the Ben Taub Expansion, currently anticipated for later this month.

All are welcome to attend.
